The $2 Burrito โ How to Build It at Home With Amazon Ingredients
I'll be honest โ I'm not much of a cook yet. But I'm learning, and one of the first things I figured out is that a burrito is one of the easiest meals you can make at home. You basically just heat stuff up and wrap it. That's it. No complicated techniques, no fancy equipment, just a pan and a microwave and you're good.
The whole thing costs under $2 per burrito when you buy the ingredients on Amazon. I went through and priced everything out so you know exactly what you're spending before you even get to the stove. I'm actually going out to buy these ingredients and make this myself โ so if you're new to cooking like me, follow along and let's figure this out together.

What You Need
- A pan or skillet (any size)
- A spatula or spoon
- A microwave or the same pan to warm the tortilla
- That's literally it
Step by Step
Heat your beans
Open the can of refried black beans. Pour half into a small pan on medium-low heat. Stir occasionally for about 3โ4 minutes until warm and smooth. Add a tiny splash of water if it looks too thick. You'll know it's ready when it starts to bubble slightly.
Warm your tortilla
Option A: Put the tortilla directly on the pan for 20โ30 seconds per side until soft and slightly golden. Option B: Wrap it in a damp paper towel and microwave for 20 seconds. Either way works. Warming it makes it way easier to fold without cracking.
Cook protein (if using)
If you're adding ground turkey โ cook it first before the beans. Put it in your pan on medium heat. Break it up with a spoon as it cooks. Season with salt and pepper. Cook until there's no pink left, about 6โ8 minutes. Set aside.
Build your burrito
Lay your warm tortilla flat. Spoon beans down the center โ not too close to the edges. Add turkey if using. Lay one slice of cheddar on top. Add 2โ3 tablespoons of cantina salsa.
Fold it
Fold the left and right sides of the tortilla inward first. Then roll from the bottom up, tucking as you go. If it falls apart the first time don't stress โ it took me a minute to figure out too. You can also just eat it open-faced and it tastes exactly the same.
Optional: Toast it
Put the burrito seam-side down back in the pan on medium heat for 1โ2 minutes. This crisps up the outside and holds it together better. Flip and do the other side. This step is optional but it takes it from good to really good.
Eat it
That's it. You're done.

What You Actually Spend
You're buying a full pack of tortillas, a full jar of salsa, a full block of cheese โ those ingredients will make you 8โ10 burritos, not just one. The per-burrito cost goes way down the more you make.
Easy Upgrades
- Use 365 WFM Organic Refried Pinto Beans instead of black beans โ same price, different flavor
- Swap the salsa for WFM Spicy Cantina Salsa if you want heat
- Add a spoonful of sour cream inside before folding
- Chop some onion and throw it in the pan with the turkey while it cooks โ costs almost nothing and adds a lot of flavor
- Make 4โ6 at once on Sunday, wrap individually in foil, and reheat through the week
